Porritt Inc. helps refineries, chemical plants, and other energy facilities run safely and stay compliant. We offer process safety management (PSM) consulting, OSHA 1910.119 and RAGAGEP compliance reviews, and operator and mechanic training. We also build our own software and the control hardware that runs the balance of plant at refineries, power plants, LNG and hydrogen plants, carbon capture units, large ships, and future fusion plants. What is balance of plant?
Balance of plant is everything in a power or process plant except the heat source itself: pumps, coolant loops, heat exchangers, turbines and generators, cryogenics, vacuum systems, electrical gear, and the control system that ties them together. It makes up roughly 80% of a plant, and it is where most trips and outages begin.
What is the 4th state, and what is the plasma era?
Plasma is the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid, and gas. It is what fusion reactors run on. The plasma era is our shorthand for the coming generation of fusion-powered plants. Our control architecture is fission first, fusion ready: it runs on today's heat sources and is built to carry over when fusion heat arrives.
What is neuromorphic hardware?
Neuromorphic chips work more like a nervous system than a normal processor. They react to events as they happen instead of polling sensors on a fixed clock, so they respond in microseconds while drawing milliwatts of power. Porritt Inc. uses them for fast safety functions, edge threat detection, and hypersonic early warning.
