SYS 05 · TORUS + CRYOSTAT

Vacuum
systems.

Staged roughing, turbomolecular, and cryosorption pumping hold the torus at ultra-high vacuum and the cryostat at insulating vacuum, with regeneration sequencing that keeps pumping continuous through long burns.

Two vacuums, different jobs
STAGE 01

Rough it down

Mechanical roughing pumps take the volume from atmosphere to the crossover pressure where turbo pumps can take over without stalling.

Base pressure
STAGE 02

Hold ultra-high vacuum

Turbomolecular and cryosorption pumping hold the torus where plasma physics requires it. Impurity influx is a performance limit, not a nuisance.

Cryopumps
STAGE 03

Regenerate without stopping

Cryopumps saturate and must be regenerated. Sequencing the bank means pumping never fully stops, so long burns stay possible.

Hold the vacuum.

Vacuum supervision, regeneration sequencing, and leak detection all live in the plant control layer.
