Helium refrigeration delivers 4.5 K cold power to the superconducting magnet set, with 80 K thermal shields and quench-recovery surge volumes. The liquefier is sized for full cooldown in under three weeks.

4.5 K to the magnets

The superconducting magnet set only works cold. The cryoplant is the single largest parasitic load on the plant and the one that can never be interrupted.

80 K shield loop

Intermediate shields intercept radiant heat before it reaches the 4.5 K circuit, cutting the refrigeration bill by an order of magnitude.

Absorb a quench

A magnet quench dumps stored energy as heat into the helium. Surge volumes take that spike without venting inventory or damaging the plant.
